About the Destination:
There are hundreds of factors making Triund trek in Himachal Pradesh a perfect weekend expedition and one of the major reasons is that the region one can find on this trek is captivating. Triund is known as the jewel in the crown of Dharamshala as it is situated in the laps of Dhauladhar Ranges. From Triund, one can observe the quality views of the towering peaks standing tall on Dhauladhar.
This is an easy trek at the beginning, for around five kilometers and the last stretch may pose some challenges to the trekker because on the last leg are the famous 22 curves which demand more energy until you reach Triund.

About the Trek:
Here is a very short trekking expedition to Triund, just for two days which can give you the most beautiful moments in your life on a weekend of yours. It is such an easy trek that starts from McLeodganj, a popular spot in Himachal Pradesh where tourists come in plenty for sightseeing and to do hiking.
From McLeodganj, Triund is about 9 kilometers away and located at a height of about 2875 meters. The route to Triund will be going via Dharamkot, letting you walk through the mixed forests of deodar, oak and rhododendron. Triund is exceptional in all aspects, situated amidst a ridge enabling the peaks of Dhauladhar Ranges embrace it completely.
If you start from Dharamkot, you can watch the long trails going through Galu Devi Temple, Dharamshala Cricket Stadium from a distance, the distant valleys which appear as a carpet of green and many more. As you cover several steep ascents, you will be able to see the thick meadows of Triund top. The panoramic view of the Kangra Valley can also be possibly seen from Laka Got, the nearby spot to Triund.

Post lunch, reach your campsite at Triund.

Trek is bit steepy and slippery and narrow sometimes but you will forget every pain once you are at the top of Triund. Camping overnight was a memorable experience. The weather was chilling cold at night.Few things you should remember while you head out for this trek• Make sure you carry warm clothes irrespective of the fact that what season you are travelling in.• Make sure you carry spare batteries with you.• Carry a medical aid kit and your usual medicines.

I always wanted to head out for a trek, I love to solo travel and trekking is something which I really love. I have done Roopkund trek and Everest Basecamp trek before. I was looking for some good packages when I saw this package on Heyhimlayas. I am glad I booked the package as it turned out to be a great adventure for me. The trek was an easy one and also can be done by beginners. It's very good experience walking up to Triund through the forest. On the way, you see amazing views of McLeodganj, Bhagsu, & Dharamkot. I was very happy seeing wild mushrooms and lichens growing on rotting wood. You also get to enjoy the Himalayas at sunset, at midnight and sunrise, and believe me, each of these is so different and magical in its own way. The view from the top was worth the climb. Food during the trek was mostly Maggi but that too was cooked really well with lots vegetables. Camping tents were also really great and I really had fun with the other team members. One of my best weekend.
What is the best time to go for Triund Trek?
Ideal time to visit Triund is during the month of March to June. During this time, the weather remains very cosy and comfortable with clear views. The weather is cool and comfortable around the year in Triund, except winter, when it gets chilly
What is the difficulty level of Triund Trek?
The trek difficulty level is easy to moderate. The trek involves gradual to steep ascents which novices can easily take it. The first 5 km of the Triund trek is simple and is easy.
What clothing or equipment do we need to carry on our side during?
Here is the basic checklist which should help you with your packing. As a general rule, it is advised that you should try to keep the weight of your equipment to a minimum. It is ideal to carry a backpack [40-60 L] and include the following – Water-proof Trekking shoes, Thermals, Synthetic Trek pants, T-shirts, Top and bottom thick Fleece, wind-proof jackets, sunglasses, LED Torch, Head Torch, Trekking pole, Socks[2-3 pairs], synthetic hand gloves. You need to also carry a day pack of around 20 L which will hold all the toiletries – Light towel, Sunscreen [with high SPF formulation], moisturiser, lip balm, toothbrush, toothpaste, sanitizer, water bottle, Garbage bags, dryflo tube/buff, Poncho, Power bank, warmers [in case you feel cold] and medicines – Diamox 10-15 tablets, Crocin 5-6 tablets, Band-aid pack of 10, Cotton roll, soframycin, O2 [Diarrhea], Moov/Relispray, ORS/Electral 8-10 packets, Avomine [Motion Sickness]. It is advisable to consult a doctor for medicine before packing.
Which type of shoes should I carry on the trek to Triund?
One needs proper trekking shoes during the trek and should strictly avoid sports shoes or sneakers. Since you have to walk in dense forests along with steep ascent and descent, it is advisable to have all-terrain water proof shoes. These are easily available. It is also advisable to walk in these shoes and get your feet used to it before the trek. You can opt for Forclaz or Columbia
Can I have liquor or smoke while we're on the trek?
Consumption of any type of liquor or narcotic substance should be avoided and it can lead to dangerous implications. Alcohol also leads to dehydration, which you cannot afford during the trek. Smoking will lead to breathing problems due to high altitude, hence it is not advisable
How is Triund Trek weather?
The weather is cool and comfortable around the year in Triund, except it gets chilly during winter. One can expect heavy snowfall during the month of January and February, and the trekking routes are cut off during that time
Is Diamox is advisable?
While you are trekking in high altitude region, you are prone to Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) whose symptoms are – headache, nausea, vomiting, poor appetite, dizziness and difficulty in sleeping. To overcome this Diamox is helpful. It is advisable to keep it handy or to have 1/2 a tablet in the morning and 1/2 a tablet 30 minutes before bed [kindly consult your doctor before taking any kind of medicines].
What are washroom/toilet facilities like on the trek?
Every professional trek organizer carries toilet tents during the trekking. There are separate tents for both women and men. One needs to carry toilet paper with themselves which will suffice. A deep pit is dug up, where you do your business and once done cover it up with enough dirt. A room freshener is kept handy by organizer and tents are properly sanitized.
What kind of physical fitness will be required to do Triund Trek?
The trek level is from easy to moderate, but there are tricky trails as well which requires climbing in deep snow, for that, you need to be prepared. You can start jogging every day and then do cycling for some time. Taking the stairs without any breaks is extremely helpful to keep yourself fit. You can also start with brisk walk for 20 minutes every day and then some stretching. Daily Yoga practice will help you to regulate your breathing properly.
