About the Destination:

Towering at a high altitude and also known as the most challenging and enthralling trek Pin Parvati was discovered as an alternate passage to Spiti Valley in the year 1884. The this leads you to a maximum altitude of 5,319m above the sea level. Usually done in the months of July to September this trek requires some excellent trekking skill and techniques. With a mixture of steep slopes, gradual climbs, barren mountains, snow-clad peaks and rugged passes, this 100km trek can be completed within a period of 11 days. 

The Pin Parvati Pass trek takes you through some of the highest peaks, getting acclimatized to the environs also become a major requirement for successful completion of the trek. A challenged for any seasoned trekkers, this trek calls for a long expedition every time when it’s about the Himalayas. You will start this trek from Kullu to Barsheni Village, Trek from Barsheni and then to Ruranath Camp.

Itinerary

  • Day 1 - Kullu to Barsheni Village, Trek from Barsheni to Ruranath Camp

    On your first day you will arrive at Kullu at around 11:00 AM and then take a drive through the fascinating trails that lead towards Barsheni Village.

    Nestled amidst scenic and appealing pine forests and lush meadows, this hamlet is the starting point of this astounding Pin Parvati Trek.

    With your arrival in Barsheni, get prepared to embark on the trekking trail to the basecamp in Rudranath via Kalga Village, which is located around 30 minutes away from Barsheni.

    Arriving at the camp, get freshened up and mark the beginning of this fascinating experience.

  • Day 2 - Trek from Rudranath to Kheerganga

    Today on the first day of the Pin Parvati trek, after having breakfast in the camp, start trekking towards a nearby bridge, from where you can catch the stunning glimpses of the Parvati River.

    Trekking further, you will be passing through lush and evergreen forests and picturesque meadows.

    Continue trekking for around 30 minutes followed by a 'V' turn, the resting camp for the day will be visible to you; another 10 minutes walk from the turn, you will finally reach Khirganga. \

    During the last portion of today's trek, you will be rewarded with spectacular views of pine forests and a stunning waterfall.

  • Day 3 - Trek from Khirganga to Tunda Bhuj (10,500ft)

    Your today's trek comprises of ascending through a gradual trail that will take you through scenic meadows, stream and temporary bridge. O

    Witness the mesmeric beauty of the Parvati River and several species of birds.

    After around 1 hour of this trek, the trails will start gaining height while offering you panoramic views of the Parvati Valley.

    Finally after trekking for around 5 hours, you will reach the Tunda Bhuj campsite.

  • Day 4 - Trek from Tunda Bhuj to Thakur Kuan (11,000ft)

    Your trekking trail today toPin Parvati Trek will take you magnificent valleys and several bridge.

    Begin the day with an easy ascend through verdant grazing ground and flowery meadows.

    On crossing these beautiful landscapes, arrive near a bridge that will be considerably long; and requires some additional amount of time to cross.

    Hereafter, there will be a change in the trek as the terrains will start gaining some heights; however, these sturdy terrains will last only for 15-30 minutes.

    Post this; the journey will continue through gradual trails through an uneven and rocky meadow.

    Finally, after crossing the Pandu Bridge and continuing the hike towards Parvati River.

    You will arrive at the Thakur Kuan campsite by evening and enjoy your dinne.

  • Day 5 - Trek from Thakurkuan to Mantalai (13,400ft)

    Today's trek will take you through several other streams, Parvati River, lush forests, magnificent meadows and orchards.

    During the trek, you can also witness the fascinating beauty of the Mantalai Range (13,400ft) and some of the nearby glaciers as well.

    Adding more to today's trek there is the fascinating views of the Pin Parvati Pass.

  • Day 6 - Acclimatization Day in Mantalai

    Today, you can enjoy the charm of Mantalai's stunning beauty from within the camp.

  • Day 7 - Trek from Mantalai Lake to Pin Parvati Camp (side) (14850ft)

    After having breakfast in the camp, embark on the day's trek by crossing the river and continuing ascending through the uneven trails and stunning glaciers.

    Trekking towards right of this slope, you will finally reach the base camp that is situated at a height of 1,4850ft after around 8-9 hours.

    Nestled amidst scenic vistas and glaciers, this campsite is an ideal place to enjoy the appealing beauty of the Pin Parvati Trek.

  • Day 9 - Trek from Pin Parvati Base Camp to Wichkurung Thatch

    Begin the day through the Pin Parvati Valley! Though there are two different ways to complete this trek, you will be following the one that trails through flowery meadows, brooks and high glaciers. Enjoying the mesmeric views and the aura of the trek, reach a quaint little community of the Gompa region.

    Here onwards, the trek will take you to the right of the valley and after hiking through rocky terrains.

    Continue towards the Rampur Pass. Treeking through the pass, you will finally arrive at the Wichkurung Thatch that is located within long pamapas and verdant forest.

  • Day 10 - Trek from Wichkurung Thatch to Mud Village, Drive from Mud Village to Kaza

    Following the enchanting beauty of the morning hit the challenging and rocky terrains and start trekking towards the Mud Village; most of this trek will be through the Spiti Valley.

    Post lunch; take an enthralling drive to the Kaza region and enjoy the magical views throughout the drive.

  • Day 11 - Drive from Kaza to Manali (9 hours)

    Today, after having breakfast in Kaza, embark on a long drive through the magical surroundings of Kaza and proceed towards Manali.

    The drive will take you through high altitudes and will offer enthralling views of the snow clad peaks and picturesque mountains.

    After arriving in Manali, check-in into a hotel.

  • Day 12 - Drive from Manali to Delhi and Departure

    Today will be last day in this astounding Pin Parvati Valley.

    In the morning, pack your bags, and 6 hours drive that will finally take you to Delhi.

    2. Is Diamox advisable on this trek?

      While you are trekking in high altitude region, you are prone to Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) whose symptoms are – headache, nausea, vomiting, poor appetite, dizziness and difficulty in sleeping. To overcome this Diamox is helpful. It is advisable to keep it handy or to have 1/2 a tablet in the morning and 1/2 a tablet 30 minutes before bed [kindly consult your doctor before taking any kind of medicines].

    3. How do I get in shape for Pin Parvati trek?

      Pin Parvati trek is considered a difficult level trek. Physical preparation is mandatory, for all treks. You can start jogging every day and then do cycling for some time. Taking the stairs without any breaks is extremely helpful to keep yourself fit. Swimming is also advised. Yoga and Pranayama exercises prove really helpful to regulate your breathing. Walk as much as you can, it will help you increase your capacity to walk on the steep rocks.

    4. What are washroom/toilet facilities like on the trek?

      Every professional trek organiser carry toilet tents during the trekking. There are separate tents for both women and men. One needs to carry wet wipes and toilet paper with themselves which will suffice. A deep pit is dug up, where you do your business and once done cover it up with enough dirt. A room freshener is kept handy by organiser and tents are properly sanitized.

    5. Can only an experienced trekker do Pin Parvati Trek?

      Pin Parvati trek is a considered as a difficult level trek, hence, it is said often that this trek is only for the seasoned trekkers. Pin Parvati is quite a long expedition – a whole 17457 feet high. If you have done high-altitude treks already and you are really in a great shape physically, you can opt for this trek. Anyone above the age of 15 years opt for this trek it but one must have prior experience with high altitude trekking because Pin Parvati trek is for the serious trekkers.

    6. What are some risks associated with this trek?

      Pin Parvati Trek is almost a 100-kilometer stretch. The risks are high during the monsoon and gets seriously washed during that time Pin Parvati has more than a few downsides – but it is what makes the trekking experience so exciting. Additional issue which people face is associated to finding the route inside the forest. Many of them get confused and forget the route. There are un-roped crevasses which one will have to cross strategically. Also, for 10 days you will be carrying a 15kg backpack, which might take a toll on you. Plus, there is no rescue option here on this trek.

    7. How much time is required to do trek to Pin Parvati?

      Pin Parvati is a 100-kilometer trek, and it usually takes 10 days without any rest. However, local shepherds and some international hikers do it in 6 to 7 days, because of their experience. But we do not advise to do it in such short time because the terrain is challenging. The altitude itself is anenormous journey – you have to trek from 7000 feet to 17,500 feet. Even if you are physically super fit, you are prone to get sick if you hurry too much. The suggested time is 12 days for this trek but 10 days is good enough for experienced hikers.

    8. What if someone is unable to continue this trek?

      All trek leaders are certified in “Wilderness first-aid" and are aware of high attitude problems. A complete first-aid kit, Oxygen cylinders, Improvised Stretchers, necessary medicines (relating to AMS) are always carried by us If one is unable to continue, then one must have a rescue or emergency plan. Usually, the package includes a plan and there are stretchers on board for abrupt vacation. Additionally, it is advisable that you must prepare your own medical rescue plan. You have to plan out who will give you a CPR or medical aid and how many porters you will need for the rescue. The trek leader will help but you must also prepare yourself, in case of emergency. Also, medical supplies such as oxygen cylinder, antibiotics, and steroids are generally included in the package.

    9. What attractions can be covered during this trek?

      Kullu Manali is acknowledged as the ‘Switzerland of India’ and is a splendid sight, it is also the first attraction, you will come across. From Kullu, there you will go to Rudranath, then to Arsheni, where one can see beautiful sights of the mountain. From there you head toTunda Bhuj, where one can see waterfall torrents flowing gradually through the valley. Then you reach Mantalai, where the River Beas meets River Parvati. Also, as per locals, there is a trivial shivling buried in the mountain here, which is a sight for sore eyes.

      In Himalayas, the weather pattern remains pretty unpredictable. While this region is known for its vibrant weather During the trekking season, one can come across unexpectedoutpourings of rain. Sometimes, one can face intense rains which may have major implications on the journey. One you go to the higher altitudes you will come acrosswhiteouts and heavy snow which will make this trek even more challenging. Hence,one needs to be prepared for this trek because, at 4000 meters, one can expect some substantial amount of snow at the peaks.

    11. Can we consume alcohol if it’s really cold during the trek?

      Consumption of any type of liquor or narcotic substance should be avoided and it can lead to dangerous implications. Alcohol also leads to dehydration and dizziness, which you cannot afford during the trek. It doesnot make you feel warm, it makes blood flow close to your skin – which makes you feel warm when in reality it just lowers your body temperature. Alcohol can cause also hypothermia by lowering your body temperature. Smoking will cause heavy breathing problems at high altitude.

      Pin Parvati trek is usually undertaken during the months of July to September. Due to heavy snowfall during the winter months, this trek can get extremely challenging and tricky.

It is ideal to carry a backpack [40-60 L] and include the following – Trekking shoes, Thermals, Synthetic Trek pants, T-shirts, Top and bottom thick Fleece, wind-proof jackets, sunglasses, LED Torch, Head Torch, Trekking pole, Socks [2-3 pairs], synthetic hand gloves. You need to also carry a day pack of around 20 L which will hold all the toiletries – Light towel, Sunscreen [with high SPF formulation], moisturiser, lip balm, toothbrush, toothpaste, sanitizer, water bottle, Garbage bags, dryflo tube/buff, Poncho, Power bank, warmees [in case you feel cold] and medicines – Diamox 10-15 tablets, Crocin 5-6 tablets, Band-aid pack of 10, Cotton roll, soframycin, O2 [Diarrhoea], Moov/Relispray, ORS/Electral 8-10 packets, Avomine [Motion Sickness]. It is advisable to consult a doctor for medicine before packing.

    15. How much weight will I have to carry? Will there be porters?

      It is always advisable to pack light with maximum weight of 10- 15 kg in a backpack [40-60 L]. Yes, A porter is available at additional cost on request and you need to inform while booking the trip.

    16. Which type of shoes should I buy/carry?

      One needs proper trekking shoes during the trek and should strictly avoid sports shoes or sneakers. Since you have to walk in dense forests along with steep ascent and descent, it is advisable to have high ankle all-terrain water proof shoes. These are easily available. It is also advisable to walk in these shoes and get your feet used to it before the trek. Here are some brand recommendations – Forclaz, Columbia. Quechua, Zamberlan, Lafuma, Conquest and The North Face.

    17. What kind of food will be provided during Pin Parvati trek? What about safe drinking water?

      Freshly cooked food will be served during the trek. Vegetarian food will be served to the group keeping both health and taste in mind. Tea and Coffee will be served during the breaks. All the members are encouraged to eat well. Safe drinking water will be provided for drinking.
