It is near Mussoriee and easily accessed from Delhi.  Nag Tibba is the highest peak in the extensive range of Garhwal Himalayas. The trek route goes through the dense forests which are enriched by unique flora and fauna and throughout the trail, you will see the top notched peaks of the Himalayas like Bandarpoonch Peak, the Gangotri group of peaks, Kedarnath and Doon Valley. 

With this two day trek, you will reach the top of 9915 feet height and show you the mind-blowing villages and a mix of multiple forests. This exotic trek takes you through the magnificent beauty of the region with the valleys and the distant hills. Spend some time witnessing the thick deodar forest and the terraced fields as you keep on continuing your trek.

 About the Trek:

Taking you to 10000 feet and located at the foothills of the Garhwal Himalayas, Nag Tibba trek is one of the most amazing treks in the world. Although this trek is short in just a period of 2 days you will get a chance to explore the best parts of this region. You will start this trek starts from Dehradun once you arrive there and then you will be taken to Pantwari. From there, you will continue to Nag Tibba Base Camp.  

You will drive for around 85 kilometres and then trek for 8 kilometres until you reach your base camps. Listen to the chirping of the birds as you continue your trek and then enjoy the sweet fragrance of deodar. You will reach the Nag Tibba temple which will be covered on the very first day. During this trek, you will also get a chance to enjoy the camping experience. Get a chance to spend your night with a bonfire and gazing at the billion twinkling stars right above of you. This trek is considered suitable for beginners and they can easily head out for this trek with reasonable physical fitness.  

The Nag Tibba summit is at a distance of 3 km from the base camp. So once you reach your basecamp you will catch the sight of the great peaks like Swargarohini, Bandarpoonch, Kedarnath and Gangotri. You will keep trekking for 8 km and reach Pantwari. From Pantwari you will drive back to Dehradun and conclude your tour.

Itinerary

  • Day 1 - Dehradun – Pantwari – Nag Tibba Base camp ( 85 Km Drive & 8 Km Trek)

    Report at Dehradun Railway station around 07:00 AM and move to Pantwari village via Mussoorie, Kampty Fall.

    After reaching Pantwari village and start first day trek to Nag Tibba Temple.

    Upon reaching Nag Tibba, get ready to do the camping near the beautiful serenity.

  • Day 2 - Nag tibba Summit – Pantwari - Dehradun ( 3 Km to Summit, 8 Km Descent)

    Early morning, start off to to the top of Nag Tibba Top (3084 mtr)

    From the top, you will be able to witness the stunning views of the Himalayan peaks like Swargarohini, Bandarpoonchh, Kedarnath, Gangotri and so on.

    Post lunch, descend to Pantwari and by evening, you will reach Dehradun to wind up the tour.

    1. What is the best time to go for Nag Tibba trek?

      Nag Tibba trekis considered to be ideal to trek in spring and autumn. Ideal time to go for this trek is from February to mid-June, and mid-September to end-November. Many trekkers opt this trek as a weekend gateway too.

    2. Will there be mobile connectivity?

      Mobile network is inconsistent during the trek. Most of mobile networks do not work for most part of this trek. BSNL is the only mobile network that work in patches along the way (but is inconsistent).

      Trekking at Nag Tibba is a moderate level trek, unlike other famous trails, this one is a relatively unknown trail, but it is considered one of the best trekking grounds. Nag Tibba is the highest peak in the Garhwal district of Himalayas, which are dense forests and you can view Kedarnath peak around. You can reach the base of Nag Tibba in a jeep and it makes this trek easy to complete without much hassles.

    4. Which type of shoes should I bring for trek to Nag Tibba?

      One needs proper trekking shoes during the trek and should strictly avoid sports shoes or sneakers. Since you have to walk in dense forests along with steep ascent and descent, it is advisable to have high ankle all-terrain water proof shoes. These are easily available. It is also advisable to walk in these shoes and get your feet used to it before the trek. Here are some brand recommendations – Forclaz, Columbia. Quechua, Zamberlan, Lafuma, Conquest and The North Face.

    5. What are the clothing and equipment that need to be carried from our end?

      Here is the basic checklist which should help you with your packing. As a general rule, it is advised that you should try to keep the weight of your equipment to a minimum. It is ideal to carry a backpack [40-60 L] and include the following – Trekking shoes, Thermals, Synthetic Trek pants, T-shirts, Top and bottom thick Fleece, wind-proof jackets, sunglasses, LED Torch, Head Torch, Trekking pole, Socks [2-3 pairs], synthetic hand gloves. You need to also carry a day pack of around 20 L which will hold all the toiletries – Light towel, Sunscreen [with high SPF formulation], moisturiser, lip balm, toothbrush, toothpaste, sanitizer, water bottle, Garbage bags, dryflo tube/buff, Poncho, Power bank, warmees [in case you feel cold] and medicines – Diamox 10-15 tablets, Crocin 5-6 tablets, Band-aid pack of 10, Cotton roll, soframycin, O2 [Diarrhoea], Moov/Relispray, ORS/Electral 8-10 packets, Avomine [Motion Sickness]. It is advisable to consult a doctor for medicine before packing.

    6. Can I go solo for Nag Tibba trek?

      Nag Tibba trek is can be done by trekking solo, if you have prior experience in trekking. Unlike any other trekking trips, you must be fullyprepare for this one. If you are opting for solo trek, you are responsible for your own safety and therefore it is important that you know the trail along with its the highs and lows. For safety and security reasons, it is always advisable to go on group tour for trekking in Himalayas, instead of trekking solo.

    7. How much weight will I have to carry?

      It is advisable to carry a 60L backpack for this trek. Furthermore, weight to be carried will depend on your requirements and capacity.

    8. What kind of food will be provided during this trek? What about safe drinking water?

      Freshly cooked food will be served during the trek. Vegetarian food will be served to the group keeping both health and taste in mind. Tea and Coffee will be served during the breaks. All the members are encouraged to eat well.

    9. Can we consume alcohol if it’s really cold during the trek?

      Consumption of any type of liquor or narcotic substance should be avoided and it can lead to dangerous implications. Alcohol also leads to dehydration, which you cannot afford during the trek. Smoking will cause heavy breathing problems at high altitude.

    10. Is Nag Tibba a good trek for a first timer?

      Nag Tibba Trek is an easy to moderate level trek. Even first timers with proper fitness training can opt for this trek. You need to walk around 8-10 km every day, you need to consider that be get fit accordingly.

    11. How is Nag Tibba weather?

      Weather is moderately hot during the daytime and pleasant during night. You will find snow in February and March, which will gradually disappear by end of March. Daytime temperature ranges from 20-25 degrees and at night temperature drops to 8-13 degrees. During monsoon, you can expect heavy rainfall on most of the days, but once to reach higher altitude it gradually decreases. You will find sunny weather from September to December. Daytime temperature ranges from 14-18 degrees and at night temperature drops to 10 degrees.

    12. Is Diamox advisable during this trek?

      While you are trekking in high altitude region, you are prone to Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) whose symptoms are – headache, nausea, vomiting, poor appetite, dizziness and difficulty in sleeping. To overcome this Diamox is helpful. It is advisable to keep it handy or to have 1/2 a tablet in the morning and 1/2 a tablet 30 minutes before bed [kindly consult your doctor before taking any kind of medicines].

    13. How do I get in shape for the trek to Nag Tibba?

      Nag Tibba trek is considered an easy to moderate level trek, beginners can try this trek only if they are physically fit. Regular cardiovascular workouts will help you get in shape for most of the treks. Taking the stairs without any breaks is extremely helpful to keep yourself fit. You can start jogging every day and then do regular cycling for some time.
