About the Trek:
Taking you to 10000 feet and located at the foothills of the Garhwal Himalayas, Nag Tibba trek is one of the most amazing treks in the world. Although this trek is short in just a period of 2 days you will get a chance to explore the best parts of this region. You will start this trek starts from Dehradun once you arrive there and then you will be taken to Pantwari. From there, you will continue to Nag Tibba Base Camp.
You will drive for around 85 kilometres and then trek for 8 kilometres until you reach your base camps. Listen to the chirping of the birds as you continue your trek and then enjoy the sweet fragrance of deodar. You will reach the Nag Tibba temple which will be covered on the very first day. During this trek, you will also get a chance to enjoy the camping experience. Get a chance to spend your night with a bonfire and gazing at the billion twinkling stars right above of you. This trek is considered suitable for beginners and they can easily head out for this trek with reasonable physical fitness.
The Nag Tibba summit is at a distance of 3 km from the base camp. So once you reach your basecamp you will catch the sight of the great peaks like Swargarohini, Bandarpoonch, Kedarnath and Gangotri. You need to also carry a day pack of around 20 L which will hold all the toiletries – Light towel, Sunscreen [with high SPF formulation], moisturiser, lip balm, toothbrush, toothpaste, sanitizer, water bottle, Garbage bags, dryflo tube/buff, Poncho, Power bank, warmees [in case you feel cold] and medicines – Diamox 10-15 tablets, Crocin 5-6 tablets, Band-aid pack of 10, Cotton roll, soframycin, O2 [Diarrhoea], Moov/Relispray, ORS/Electral 8-10 packets, Avomine [Motion Sickness]. It is advisable to consult a doctor for medicine before packing.
Can I go solo for Nag Tibba trek?
Nag Tibba trek is can be done by trekking solo, if you have prior experience in trekking. Unlike any other trekking trips, you must be fullyprepare for this one. If you are opting for solo trek, you are responsible for your own safety and therefore it is important that you know the trail along with its the highs and lows. Consumption of any type of liquor or narcotic substance should be avoided and it can lead to dangerous implications. Alcohol also leads to dehydration, which you cannot afford during the trek. Smoking will cause heavy breathing problems at high altitude.
Is Nag Tibba a good trek for a first timer?
Nag Tibba Trek is an easy to moderate level trek. Even first timers with proper fitness training can opt for this trek. You need to walk around 8-10 km every day, you need to consider that be get fit accordingly.
How is Nag Tibba weather?
Weather is moderately hot during the daytime and pleasant during night. You will find snow in February and March, which will gradually disappear by end of March. Daytime temperature ranges from 20-25 degrees and at night temperature drops to 8-13 degrees. During monsoon, you can expect heavy rainfall on most of the days, but once to reach higher altitude it gradually decreases. You will find sunny weather from September to December. Daytime temperature ranges from 14-18 degrees and at night temperature drops to 10 degrees.
Is Diamox advisable during this trek?
While you are trekking in high altitude region, you are prone to Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) whose symptoms are – headache, nausea, vomiting, poor appetite, dizziness and difficulty in sleeping. To overcome this Diamox is helpful. It is advisable to keep it handy or to have 1/2 a tablet in the morning and 1/2 a tablet 30 minutes before bed [kindly consult your doctor before taking any kind of medicines].
How do I get in shape for the trek to Nag Tibba?
Nag Tibba trek is considered an easy to moderate level trek, beginners can try this trek only if they are physically fit. Regular cardiovascular workouts will help you get in shape for most of the treks. Taking the stairs without any breaks is extremely helpful to keep yourself fit. You can start jogging every day and then do regular cycling for some time.
