You will start this trek from Dehradun, the most celebrated hill station in Uttarakhand. The drive to Kedarkantha takes you through Mussoorie, and some of the scenic beauty of the region till you reach Sankri. 

The scenic drive along the remote locations make the target livelier and enthusiasm comes to take hold of you in a short time. From the base camp itself, you will start capturing the stunning panoramic view of the popular peaks in the Himalayan Ranges, standing tall with undefeated pride.   • Day 1 - Dehradun - Sankri (7-8 hrs by road)

    From Dehradun, get a drive to Sankri via Mussoorie.

    Have lunch en route and the delightful drive will show you the beautiful Yamuna, exquisite Tons river and pine forests.

    Check into the hotel after reaching Sankrir and in the evening, enjoy a stroll in the charming village.

    Stay overnight in the hotel.

  • Day 2 - Sankri - Juda-ka-Talab - Shepherd Camp (3-4hrs)

    Commence the much awaited trek today after breakfast. Head out to Kedarkantha.

    The trail of today will be moderate and will pass through a lovely forest for most of the part.

    Start off with a walk to Saur Village where the proper ascending starts.

    After 2 hours of walking, you will reach Juda-ka-Talab, a small lake pond that turns to ice during the winters.

    While you continue walking, the tips of the frosty peaks of the mighty Himalayas become visible.

    Hike for 1.5 hours more and arrive at a meadow used by shepherds during the summer season.

    Camp here for the night.

  • Day 3 - Shepherd Camp - Kedarkantha Base (4hrs)

    The trek to Kedarkantha base happens today. Start it off after breakfast.

    It will be a challenging trail that is laced with vast snow fields and green patches between them.

    Once you reach the destination, take time to revel in the open snow ground ringed by trees.

    Check into the camps pitched over here. Also, there will be a safety back up hut.

    Enjoy the views of Swargarohini, Bandarpoonch and Kalanag peaks more closely.

    Stay overnight in the tents.

  • Day 4 - Base Camp - Kedarkantha – Base Camp

    Today, be prepared for a steep climb and ascend through snow.

    The route will be taken depending upon the snow conditions.

    After 4-5 hours, you will reach Kedarkantha. Here you will get the ample views of Yamunotri and Gangotri ranges, Kinner Kailash range and other ranges in the Himalayas.

    Return to the base camp and stay overnight there.

  • Day 5 - Base Camp - Shepherd Camp (2hrs)

    After having tea and cookies, begin the trek to the Shepherd Camp.

    Once you reach, have a sumptuous breakfast and then relax for sometime.

    You will then be given a briefing on skiing techniques and get familiarised with the equipment.

    You will be assisted by the expert guides throughout. Under their supervision, enjoy 3-5 adventurous hours of skiing with adequate breaks in between.

    After the activity, return to your stay and relax for the whole night peacefully.

  • Day 6 - Day spent at Shepard Camp, Go Skiing

    Engage with the techniques of skiing for one more day.

    Glide along the slope of snow cover and let your heart collect some exotic memories.

    There will be enough breaks in between and as the day ends, you will be comfortable in doing short runs. Stay overnight in the tents.

  • Day 7 - Shepherd Camp – Sankri – Dehradun

    First half of the day, enjoy skiing for a bit. Later, start descending to Sankri.

    Once you reach there, take a hot bath.

    Indulge in lunch and start driving back towards Dehradun which you reach by around 8 pm.

      Kedarkantha Winter trek is considered as an easy trek but it gets moderately difficult as you progress. It is advisable to spend enough time getting some additional exercise before taking up this trek. You can start jogging every day and then do cycling for some time. Taking the stairs without any breaks is extremely helpful to keep yourself fit. It is mandatory to be physically fit, for all treks. You should be comfortable enough to walk up to 6-7 hours per day.

      Here is the basic checklist which should help you with your packing. As a general rule, it is advised that you should try to keep the weight of your equipment to a minimum. It is ideal to carry a backpack [40-60 L] and include the following – Trekking shoes, Thermals, Synthetic Trek pants, T-shirts, Top and bottom thick Fleece, wind-proof jackets, sunglasses, LED Torch, Head Torch, Trekking pole, Socks [2-3 pairs], synthetic hand gloves. You need to also carry a day pack of around 20 L which will hold all the toiletries – Light towel, Sunscreen [with high SPF formulation], moisturiser, lip balm, toothbrush, toothpaste, sanitizer, water bottle, Garbage bags, dryflo tube/buff, Poncho, Power bank, warmees [in case you feel cold] and medicines – Diamox 10-15 tablets, Crocin 5-6 tablets, Band-aid pack of 10, Cotton roll, soframycin, O2 [Diarrhoea], Moov/Relispray, ORS/Electral 8-10 packets, Avomine [Motion Sickness]. It is advisable to consult a doctor for medicine before packing.

    4. What kind of shoes I should have?

      One needs proper trekking shoes during the trek and should strictly avoid sports shoes or sneakers. Since you have to walk in dense forests along with steep ascent and descent, it is advisable to have all-terrain water proof shoes. These are easily available. It is also advisable to walk in these shoes and get your feet used to it before the trek. Here are some brand recommendations – Forclaz, Columbia. Quechua, Zamberlan, Lafuma, Conquest and The North Face.

    5. What will be the facility of food and water during the trek?

      Freshly cooked food will be served during the trek. Vegetarian food will be served to the group keeping both health and taste in mind. Tea and Coffee will be served during the breaks. All the members are encouraged to eat well. Safe drinking water is provided to all the members throughout the trek.

    6. What all medicines I should carry? Can I take Diamox?

      Carrying medicines is important while trekking anywhere in the world. During the trekking, access to pharmacies is not easy. So, it’s better to carry first-aid kit. You can pack Crocin 5-6 tablets, Band-aid pack of 10, Cotton roll, Soframycin, Moov/Relispray, ORS/Electral 8-10 packets, Avomine [Motion Sickness]. It is advisable to consult a doctor for medicines before packing. Your first-aid should have anti-diarrhoea medicine such as O2, Roko, Lopamide but make sure that you don't take it unless getting to a toilet isn't an option. While you are trekking in high altitude region, you are prone to Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) whose symptoms are – headache, nausea, vomiting, poor appetite, dizziness and difficulty in sleeping. To overcome this Diamox is helpful. It is advisable to keep it handy or to have 1/2 a tablet in the morning and 1/2 a tablet 30 minutes before bed [kindly consult your doctor before taking any kind of medicines].
