About the Trek:
Goecha La Trek is said to be one of the toughest but most beautiful treks in the world. Trekking to a high altitude might be very difficult at times, but this trek will take you through the journey of some of the best sights in the world. Not only will you get to watch the summit of the Kanchenjunga but 14 other summits as well. You will start your trek from Yuksom and you will take a drive to this exotic little town. Start trekking through some of the amazing beauty of the region.
Cross the Rathong River and pass through the Paha Khola Bridge. On your third day, you will continue trekking to Tshokha which is located at a 9,700ft. This trek will take you through the aromatic viburnum plantations and then you will pass through Prek Chu River and hike uphill for around 2-3 hours to reach Bakhim. As you continue you will come across the scenic forest which will slowly take you take you to Phedang. Soak in the mesmerizing sights of Koktang, Rathong, Kabru, Khangchendzonga, Simvo and Pandim peaks.
On your sixth and seventh day, you will be continuing your trek to Dzongri to Thangshing. The stunning views of the Kanchenjunga and Pandim peaks will keep you enchanted all through the way. As you continue your trek, you will come across the Dzongri Plateau and the deciduous forests of Phedang. The views of enchanting peaks will keep you occupied all the time. You will be completing this trek within a period of 11 days.

The drive will take you along the gushing Teesta River and continuing uphill, you will be crossing a bridge in Legship to reach Yuksom.

Start ascending uphill and follow the gorges of the Rathong River.
Your trek route takes you through the lush thickets of magnolia, rhododendron and ferns.
Proceed towards the Paha Khola Bridge. On the way, relish a packed lunch and keep yourself energized for the rest of the trek; be prepared to spot exotic orchids, colourful flowers and monkeys along the hike.
Arrive in Sachen and then settle down into the campsite.

Your trek for the day will take you through the aromatic viburnum plantations, after which you will be crossing the Prek Chu River and hike uphill for around 2-3 hours to reach Bakhim.
Hereafter, trekking upwards, you will finally reach Tshoka, the Tibetan refugee settlement.
Overnight stay will be in a camp.
While on today’s trek, you will be making your way uphill and through scenic forests of rhododendrons; you can expect well-laid trails on the way.
Moving from here, a short trek will finally take you to Phedang, where you will spend the night.

Post breakfast in the Phedang campsite, get prepared for another scenic uphill trek, and with this trek, you will be crossing 4,000m in the Himalayas.
Enjoy your packed lunch and relax around the scenic vistas to get acclimatized to the higher altitudes. A further climb after relaxation will finally take you to the Dzongri overnight campsite area.
From here you can have mesmerising views of the Koktang, Rathong, Kabru, Khangchendzonga, Simvo and Pandim peaks.

Today after breakfast you can either spend the day relaxing in the camp or just take up a short exploration quest around the camp.
The day is much required as you must get acclimatised to the higher altitudes before gaining further height.

Starting with a gradual ascend, today you will climb around 1mile and advent towards a low-ridge (13,500ft), from where the chortens and the colourful prayer flags overtakes the views.
The astounding views of the Kanchenjunga and Pandim peaks will keep you enchanted all through the way.
Hereafter, the trek starts descending down towards Pandim and will take you through rhododendron forests and the Prek Chu River.
Take a lunch break in a trekking lodge within the vicinity and continue trekking for another 1.5 hours to make it to Thangshing.
Overnight stay at camps in Thangshing.
Start the day early in order to avoid the harsh climatic conditions that might hinder your course in the latter part of the day.
You will be climbing uphill through the moraines and then then be descend to the Samiti Lake and then cross the Zemathang Plateau.
From here, you will once again start ascending over a moraine and after trekking for around 1 hour, will reach the Goecha La Pass.
Arriving at this magnificent pass, behold the magical views of the Kanchenjunga and other distant peaks before you start moving back towards Lamuney.
Overnight stay camp beside the Samiti Lake.
Wake upearly in the morning, enjoy the enchanting views of the Kanchenjunga Peak from a nearby ridge and start trekking back towards Tshoka.
Today, you will be taking a route through the Dzongri Plateau in order to avoid the long climb.
The trail passes through Prek Chu and the deciduous forests of Phedang.
Arrive in Tshoka, settle down.

Today, descending through the Prek Chu River, you will be arriving in Yuksom, the last leg of this astounding tour.

What is the best time to go for Goecha La trek?
There are two best seasons to go for the Goecha La trek. The first season is from March to June. The second season is after the monsoon starting from September to November. The time for monsoon is from July to August, which should be avoided due to the occurrence of landslides.
Which trek is better- Sandakphu trek or Goecha La trek?
Both the trek has its own unique wonders but Goecha La is known for its beautiful scenery and topography compared to that of Sandakphu trek. Goecha La trek is a little more challenging with a maximum heights of up to 5200 m as compared to the Sandakphu trek with the heights of up to 3636 m. While you get a 270 degree panoramic view of the Himalayan ranges, on the other hand, Goecha La trek presents the view of only the Mt. Kanchenjunga.
Which type of shoes should I carry?
Shoes being the most important accessory on a trek. It is necessary to give more importance in choosing the right shoe. Please do not carry the normal sports shoes. As you need the good traction and grip during the trek, shoes from Woodland or Forclaz 500 is a recommended choice.
What kind of food will be provided during this trek? What about safe drinking water?
All meals, including breakfast, lunch, and dinner and safe drinking water is provided throughout the trek. Nutritious food will be provided by the organizers on the trek from time to time. Hygienic and good quality water will also be provided. You will be served Indian vegetarian food. Additional eggs will be provided during this trek. Himalayan water is considered clean but to be on the safe side you will get boiled water with chlorine tablets to keep the bacteria away.
How much weight will I have to carry?
It is advisable to carry a 6L backpack depending on your requirements and capacity. Porters and mules will be present to carry your luggage for extra charges.
Will there be mobile connectivity on Goecha La trek?
No, there is no mobile connectivity during the trek. If you are lucky you will get a little mobile network in Jorethang which is one the way to Yuksom. After Jorethang you won't get any signal, so make all your important call at Jorethang.
How is the weather on Goecha La trek?
The temperature varies and depends upon the month and the weather you are going for the trek. In May or June, the day temperature will be in the range of 15 - 25 degrees and during the night it will be between 8 - 15 degrees. On the other hand, if you are going for the trek during the months of September and October, the day temperature will be between 13 - 20 degrees and the temperature during the night will be between 2 - 17 degrees.
What about first aid and medicines?
First aid kit and all the necessary medications will be provided during the trek. But it is advisable to carry your own as well. Medicines is important while trekking. It is the first thing that must be given importance. The drive will include the scenic sighting of the gushing Teesta River and it will continue uphill. Further you will be crossing a bridge in Legship to reach Yuksom. Yuksom is as beautiful. The entire journey to Yuksom will mark lot of snow capped mountains and some amazing scenic views.

No, you will find lot of snow only during winters. Heavy snow during early winters cause the roads to be closed in order to maintain the safety of the adventure enthusiasts. Further, the area gets highly tensed during peak snow falls, hence treks are canceled in such cases. Higher altitudes will see snow and hence you will walk quite some distance.
Can we consume alcohol if it's really cold during the trek?
No, consumption of alcohol is strictly prohibited on any type of trek.The most important aspect needed for trekking is control and sound mindless. One should have a strong mindset to make through the difficult forest phase as there would be blind curves and steep slopes while in the trek. Usage of alcohol will seriously damage the overall function of the body. You will lose control and face some serious consequences. So, it is advisable to refrain from drinking even if it is cold.
