About the Trek

The whole trek covers Chandrashila Peak, passing by the reverberating Deorital Lake and opening up to the kaleidoscopic gallery of snow peaks in the Himalayan Ranges all the way. This trek will show you the beautiful Chopta as well as the holy Tungnath Temple en route.  

You will be provided with accommodation in tents, meals and an experienced guide throughout the tour. You will start this amazing trek from Haridwar and then from there, you will trek to Deoriatal.     1. What is the best time to go for Chandrashilla trek?

      Chandrashilla trek is one of the all-season treks in Himalayan belt. Ideal time to go for the trek is between September and November, when the views are extremely clear and no traces of snow. On the other hand, if you want to experience snow, you can plan the trek between January and March.

    2. Will there be snow during Chandrashilla Chopta trek?

      During winters, one can expect snowfall in this region. If you planning your trek between January and March, the trails will be full of snow and you can experience the snow fall too.

    3. Will there be mobile connectivity?

      Mobile network is present but inconsistent in this region. Mobile network of Airtel, Vodafone and BSNL numbers is available at Sari. However, post Sari, there may not be connectivity, so it is advised to finish your calls at this point and inform your family about limited phone connectivity.

    4. Which type of shoes should I bring?

      One needs proper trekking shoes during the trek and should strictly avoid sports shoes or sneakers. Since you have to walk in dense forests along with steep ascent and descent, it is advisable to have all-terrain water proof shoes. These are easily available. It is also advisable to walk in these shoes and get your feet used to it before the trek. You can opt for Forclaz or Columbia.

    5. What are the clothing and equipments that need to be carried from our end?

      Here is the basic checklist which should help you with your packing. As a general rule, it is advised that you should try to keep the weight of your equipment to a minimum. It is ideal to carry a backpack [40-60 L] and include the following – Water-proof Trekking shoes, Thermals, Synthetic Trek pants, T-shirts, Top and bottom thick Fleece, wind-proof jackets, sunglasses, LED Torch, Head Torch, Trekking pole, Socks[2-3 pairs], synthetic hand gloves. You need to also carry a day pack of around 20 L which will hold all the toiletries – Light towel, Sunscreen [with high SPF formulation], moisturiser, lip balm, toothbrush, toothpaste, sanitizer, water bottle, Garbage bags, dryflo tube/buff, Poncho, Power bank, warmees [in case you feel cold] and medicines – Diamox 10-15 tablets, Crocin 5-6 tablets, Band-aid pack of 10, Cotton roll, soframycin, O2 [Diarrhoea], Moov/Relispray, ORS/Electral 8-10 packets, Avomine [Motion Sickness]. It is advisable to consult a doctor for medicine before packing

      Freshly cooked food will be served during the trek. Vegetarian food will be served during the trek. Safe water will be provided to all the trekkers’ part of the group.

    7. How much weight will I have to carry?

      It is always advisable to carry light during treks. We would advise to carry a 6L backpack, weight to be carried will depend on your requirements and capacity.

    8. When it gets really cold can I consume alcohol?

      Consumption of any type of liquor or narcotic substance should be avoided and it can lead to dangerous implications. Alcohol also leads to dehydration, which you cannot afford during the trek.

    9. How is the Chandrashilla trek weather?

      Chandrashilla trek is one of the all-season treks in Himalayas. Weather is pretty unpredictable in monsoon, and rest of the seasons are good for trekking. You would find the climate to be sunny and also a bit hot and the temperature at night would be in the range of 5 to 10 degree Celsius from April to June. From September to November, the days will be clear and warm with a temperature of 18 degree Celsius on an average. With the onset of October, the cold climate starts embracing the valley and till mid-March, there will be thick snow cover and extreme cold weather.
