Bhrigu is a lake with an obese surrounding nourished by the rejuvenating greenery. Located near Manali, to the east of Rohtang Pass and the trek is considered to be an ideal weekend hiking option. The 4-day trek starts from Gulaba, 22 kilometres away from Manali. On this trip, you will get to see the famous Gowrishankar temple, Tripura Sundari Temple with its Pahadi style and the Roerich art gallery.

This high altitude trek will take you through the journey of some of the most beautiful parts of this region.  This amazing trek can be completed in a period of 4 days and anyone who is physically fit can do this trek. This lake lies to the east of the famous Rohtang Pass and is an ideal weekend hiking option. 

On your very first day, you will trek through the dense and virgin forest once you reach Rumsu. You will see the “Gowrishankar temple and the Naggar castle as well.  On your second day, you will drive to Gulaba and trek to Rohlikohli. You will be trekking for around 5/6 hours and ascend till Rohlikohli. On your third day, you will start trekking to Bhrigu Lake which is the most exciting part of your trek. 

The initial walk is through rice fields of Pandu Ropa with grand views of snow clad mountains. Enjoy the amazing sights of the region during this trek. You will also get a chance to catch the glimpse of Seven Sister Peaks or Deo Tibba and Hanuman Tibba. The shimmering waters and the crimson sunrays creating fabulous hues are simply spectacular. Complete this trek after 4 days after driving back to Manali.

Itinerary

  • Day 1 -

    Reporting and Acclimatization

    Reach the Rumsu base camp and complete your registration process.

    Enjoy a walk to Naggar town, and then trek back to Rumsu base camp.

    The trek route from Naggar to Rumsu resort is very informative and interesting.

    The trek covers many famous places like “Gowrishankar temple” 11th century old shiva temple, Tripura sundari temple, Naggar castle and Roerich art gallery.

    Naggar's glory is reflected in many famous temples in the vicinity of Castle Fort. This old castle is a marvelous medieval building.

    A further walk lead us to Tripura Sundari temple which is a beautiful example of Pahadi style Temples .

    Later on one could also see Roerich Art Gallery on their way.

    In the evening enjoy an orientation regarding the trek by the chief organizer which will be mainly about the ruck sack packing, marching/walking technique and general awareness about the trek route. Overnight stay at Rumsu.

  • Day 2 -

    Drive to Gulaba and trek to Rohlikohli.

    Start the trek with a jeep ride from Rumsu for Gulaba. The jeep ride normally takes 3 hours.

    Begin your trek for Rohlikohli camp site and ascend till Rohlikohli which will take around 5-6 hours.

    There are two streams on the way to the camp site (Chor Nallah and Kohli Nallah).

    Rohli Kohli is a beautiful camp site and offers amazing views of Solang Valley.

    Overnight stay in tents at Rohli Kohli Camp Site.

  • Day 3 -

    Trek to Bhrigu Lake

    Start the trek early by 7 AM after breakfast, for Bhrigu Lake. It takes around 4 hours to reach to Bhrigu.

    Enjoy a delicious packed lunch will be done at Bhigu Lake.

    As per the myths, Rishi Bhrigu meditated here and used to take bath in the holy water.

    Continue trekking for the descend to Rohlikohli camp site.

  • Day 4 -

    Descend to Gulaba and Departure from Manali

    Start descending this morning for Gulaba.

    The descend is easy and takes around 3-4 hours.

    Departure from Manali bus stand at 5 PM.

    1. When is the best time to Bhrigu Lake trek?

      The best time to visit Bhrigu Lake trek is during its best climate. Starting from Mid May, till the month of October is the best time to trek to Bhrigu Lake. However the ideal time is before the month of June and after August when it is monsoon it there is chance of landslides occurring in the area.

    2. What level of fitness is expected from me?

      This trek is easy compared to the other treks in the area. But keeping your body fit for this trek is better and will help you enjoy it better. For this trip you need to be aerobically fit and also comfortable with walking up to 7 hours on some days. Performing breathing g exercises regularly will help regulate it when in higher altitude.

    3. What all things I should carry for the trek?

      It is essential that you pack your clothing and essential well in advance so you don't miss out on things.       Shoes being an important part of the trek, it is necessary to pay more attention to it. You should carry high-ankle trekking shoes. Shoes with thick soles are perfect for this trek.

    5. What will be the facility of food and water during the Bhrigu Lake trek?

      There are proper meals with subsequent nutritional values planned and provides for all the Trekkers. From day one till the end of the trek well balanced and prepared meals will be provided for breakfast, lunch and dinner. This would include nutritional vegetarian meals, with the addition of tea and coffee during the trek.

      Carrying medicines is important while trekking anywhere in the world as you cannot run in the middle of the trek for medicines. Your first-aid should have anti-diarrheal medicine such as loperamide and basic Yes, you can carry diamox and can be taken too if having sickness or nausea to help get rid of it.

    7. Will there be mobile connectivity?

      Mobile connectivity will be very poor during any trek. Indian mobile networks do not work for most part of this trek. Bsnl and Vodafone are the only mobile networks that work inconsistently in this trek that too only in base camps. As you go on higher altitudes you will not be able to get any range.

    8. What will be the temperature on Bhrigu Lake trek?

      The temperature on the trek depends on the climate of the region. Trek April to May temperature ranges between 6 - 12°C and is quite mild and pleasant with flowers like rhododendrons, orchid, primula in full bloom. In May occasional showers occur and the sky remaining cloudy most of the time. The second season is between October to November when the temperature ranges between 1 - 6°C during which it is very comfortable for the trek and if your luck you get to see snowfall.

      The weather depends on the climatic conditions of the area. It alternates between summer and winter but remains frozen for most of the year. The temperature of this place during summers is about 20-25C in the daytime and falls to 5-7C at night. However in winter it gets really cold with a temperature of 10-15C around daytime and nearly 0 to -7C at night. Almost half a year the lake remains frozen, and travelers can enjoy the sight of snow even during the early summer time.

It will collapse your breathing efficiency and you will face a lot of issues like the pores in the body open and make your body cold inside. Mostly all the trekking agencies prohibit the consumption of alcohol while trekking.

      The total trekking distance of the Bhrigu Lake is 26 kilometers up and down. From Manali, you will be taken to Rumsu Base Camp from where trek starts. On an average, you will need to trek around 5-7 hours of 8-15 Kms every day throughout the trek.

      Bhrigu Lake trek is an easy to moderate trek. But keeping your body fit will help you accomplish the trek very easily. You need to have high cardiovascular endurance for which you need to work out regularly. Start with jogging every day will help you trek long distance and good speed. Simple exercises like squats, skipping, swimming will also be perfect for your muscle flexibility.     17. What are washroom/toilet facilities like on the trek?

      There will be separate toilet tents arranged at each campsite for men and women. Depending on the size of the group, the number of toilet will vary for men and women of the group. Toilet tents will have a deep pit, mound of soil and a shovel to cover it up. Most of the toilets will be dry toilets where you have to use toilet papers. Additional room fresheners will also be provided.
